Honoring Those Who Served

Over a three-year period, The Association raised funds for a cast Perpetual Memorial plaque that honors all deputies who have worked on the tactical team. While Deputy Lonny Brewer remains the only SWAT deputy killed in the line of duty (during a callout in Escondido in 1987), the Association feels it is important to recognize every deputy who has served at the tip of the Sheriff's tactical spear.

The Perpetual Memorial Plaque is permanently displayed on the entry wall at the Special Enforcement Detail's office in the Emergency Services complex located at Gillespie Field in El Cajon. It is updated annually to reflect names of new deputies who have been selected for SED/SRT as well as noting the passing of deceased team members.

Each year on December 5th (the anniversary of Lonny's death), T.A.S.E. hosts a Memorial Reception to honor all those members who have died in the previous year. Team members who worked with the deceased deputies share stories and memories to honor their passing.
